A Footbed You Can Take Out
The Cushion-Tech footbed is what the name refers to and what the boot is built around. It lifts out, which means it can dry properly overnight instead of holding yesterday in it, and Thomas Cook builds it to be breathable, anti-bacterial and moisture absorbing.
Above it, the upper is cut from one piece of leather rather than panelled together, so there are fewer seams to give way, and the whole boot is lined in leather. The elastic in the sides is specified for shape retention, which is the part that usually goes first on a cheaper elastic-sided boot, and the rubber sole is made to be replaced when it eventually wears through.
Cushion Tech and the Dress Cuts
Four styles come as plain Cushion Tech boots and five more as Cushion Tech dress boots, which take a cleaner toe and a slimmer profile for wearing with trousers rather than jeans. A Trentham rewards a bit of looking after. Keep them off direct heat when they are wet, take the footbed out to dry, and give the leather a feed a few times a year. Done that way, the sole gives out long before the upper does, and that is the part you can have replaced.
