Stretch Jeans That Perform
Stretch jeans for anyone who spends the day moving, with enough give to sit, drive and climb without fighting the denim. A few per cent of elastane changes the day more than most people expect it to.
Why People Switch and Don't Switch Back
Rigid denim has its defenders, and they have a point about longevity. But if your day involves getting in and out of a ute, up on a tray or down on one knee, a few per cent of elastane changes the experience completely.
It's comfortable from the first wear rather than after three weeks, and it doesn't pull across the thigh when you crouch. The trade-off is honest: stretch denim loses some of its recovery over years of wear and can bag slightly at the knee. Most people decide that's a fair swap.
The Cuts on Offer
Lee Riders carries the largest share here, with Amco and Levi's next and a couple of styles from Ariat and Wrangler. Straight and slim straight cover most of it, with slim leg and skinny options, plus a few shaping styles that combine the stretch with a firmer front panel. There's a moleskin style in the mix too, for anyone who wants the give in something other than denim.
Washes and Wear
Stonewash in light, mid and dark leads the range, alongside indigo, old indigo and black. Taupe, moss, navy and midnight cover the non-blue end. A mid or dark stonewash tends to hold its look longest, since stretch denim shows fading a little faster than rigid does.
Wash cold and hang dry rather than tumbling - heat is what breaks down elastane, and a stretch jean that's been through a hot dryer a few times stops recovering. Denim weight plays into it as well.
A lighter stretch denim around ten ounces feels closer to a chino and suits warm weather; twelve to thirteen ounces is the everyday middle; anything heavier takes longer to soften but holds its shape through years of wear.
It's also worth knowing how stretch denim behaves through a day. Most pairs relax slightly after the first half hour and then hold, which is why a pair that feels snug in the change room is often right and a pair that feels perfect immediately can end up loose by afternoon.
If you're deciding between two sizes, the one that feels firm rather than comfortable at the waist is usually the one to take.
Cut for Both
Roughly half these are men's and a good portion women's, with several unisex-sized styles. The men's jeans and women's jeans ranges separate them if that's quicker than filtering.
Try a Pair Against Your Usual
Free shipping runs Australia-wide on orders above $175. If you've only ever worn rigid denim, buy your usual size rather than sizing down - stretch fabric feels roomier at first and people routinely go a size small and regret it after an hour.
