Waterproof Gumboots for Wet Conditions
Gumboots for mud, horse yards and wet paddocks, in heights and linings that suit what you're actually walking through. Height, lining and sole are what separate a pair you can stand in all day from one you take off at smoko.
Two Very Different Kinds
This range is dominated by Muck Boots and Thomas Cook, and they solve different problems. Muck Boots are neoprene-lined and built for long days in cold, wet conditions - the sort of boot farm and livestock work asks for.
Thomas Cook leans towards the lighter, tidier end, including chelsea-style rain boots and printed styles that you wouldn’t mind leaving on to pop into town if it was really wet.. A few Froggers and Blundstone styles round the range out.
Height Changes the Job
Ankle and low-cut boots are for a quick trip across a wet yard and are far easier to get on and off. Mid-height covers most general farm work. Tall and twelve inch boots are what you want if you're wading through anything, standing in mud, or working around stock where a splash is guaranteed.
Fleece-lined versions make a real difference on cold mornings, and there are cooler builds for summer wear. Some styles even carry a safety toe; check on the individual product pages for details.
More Colour Than You'd Expect
Black is well covered, but this range runs a long way past that! Navy, camo, and a few green options appear, along with seasonal designs that can include floral, plaid, herringbone, horse or animal prints. The women’s printed styles are genuinely popular, and designs are usually limited to one season, so if you see one you like - grab it!
Sole pattern is the other thing to look at. A deep open lug clears mud and won't pack up solid on a wet track, while a flatter, finer tread grips better on concrete and wet shed floors. Most people who work across both end up owning a pair of each rather than compromising.
Looking after them is simpler than leather but not nothing. Rinse the mud off before it dries rather than after, because dried mud holds moisture against the rubber. Store them upright and out of direct sun, since UV is what perishes rubber and cracks a boot at the flex point above the ankle.
If a pair gets soaked inside, stuff them loosely with newspaper overnight rather than standing them near a heater, which will do more damage than the water did.
Boots for Everyone in the Shed
Sizing runs across men's and women's fits, and the kids' footwear range covers the smaller feet that follow you around the yard.
Order Before the Wet Sets In
Gumboots go out with free shipping anywhere in Australia on orders over $175. Check the size guide on the relevant brand page to confirm your size in the boot that you’re looking at. If in doubt, choose the larger size and go for some thick socks. Better to have toasty warm feet in thick socks than cold feet rubbing in thin socks!. If you'd rather try a height and a lining in person, the Parafield showroom has the whole range.
