Durable Waterproof Workwear for Tough Conditions
Waterproof workwear for the jobs that carry on when the rain starts, built around three different ways of keeping water on the outside.
Three Ways to Stay Dry, and They Are Not the Same
Waterproofing gets treated as one property, and it is really three. A coated shell puts a barrier across the face of the fabric, stops water dead and does its best work in sustained rain, which is what you want when the job runs all day and the sky does not clear.
A softshell is bonded rather than coated, so it turns a passing shower and cuts the wind while staying soft and quiet enough to work in from the first hour to the last. Then there is bonded-membrane fleece, which is the one most people have not met. A fleece face with a wind- and water-resistant membrane bonded behind it gives you most of a light jacket's protection in something that still feels and moves like a jumper.
It is the option that tends to stay on all day, because there is nothing about it that makes you want to take it off once the sun comes out.
The Membrane Fleece Is the Quiet Standout
That bonded construction is worth understanding before you choose. Plain fleece is warm and lets wind straight through, which is fine as a mid-layer under something else and useless on its own in an open paddock. Put a membrane behind it and the same garment becomes a genuine outer layer.
FXD carries most of this range and runs the membrane fleece in both pullover and zip-through builds, in plain colourways and fluoro. For anyone who finds a hard shell too stiff and a plain jumper too exposed, it is the middle answer.
Wet Weather Workwear Across the Kit
On the jacket side, the range covers a coated waterproof shell, softshells in plain colours and an insulated women's cut, along with a hi-vis bomber for anyone who needs to be seen as well as kept dry. Mack and Portwest fill in around the FXD core, and between them the page covers both the trade end and the paddock end of wet weather.
A useful way to think about it is that one garment rarely does the whole job. A membrane fleece handles the shoulder seasons, a shell handles the downpour, and between them they cover most of an Australian winter without either one being worn where it does not belong.
Order Waterproof Workwear Online
Order any of it online and it ships out of our Parafield store, with the freight covered above $175. Each listing sets out the construction and whether a garment carries fluoro or reflective work, which is the pair of details worth checking before anything goes in the cart. Cut is worth a look too, since a shell meant to go over a jumper is drawn wider than one meant to sit on its own.
Wet weather is only ever one of the conditions a working wardrobe has to answer, and the rest of the workwear range covers the others:
- Waterproof Work Jackets
- Work Jumpers & Hoodies
- Work Coats & Jackets
- Hi-Vis Jackets
- Waterproof Work Pants
