A++ Shopping experience with Allingtons
By: Stacey Winduss on 20 June 2023I purchased an Akubra online for my son, and had to make a call to the lovely staff who were so helpful, to add an additional item. Nothing was too much trouble, the items were shipped quickly and well packaged. I would definitely recommend purchasing from this wonderful business, and l will certainly be a return customer.

Stylish yet 100% functional
By: Matthew Brennan on 24 March 2022My Review is for the Akubra Rough Rider size 59 in the 'Bran' colour Sizing : - This is my 5th Akubra hat. My previous Akubra was purchased as a size 57 which was a perfect firm fit so the hat stayed on my head whilst riding fast with breeze in my face. The size 57 shrunk approx. one size (I actually measured the inside circumfrence) and became too tight for me, esp. across the forehead. I have longer hair now and I chose a size 59 and wear it for the time being with headband pads fitted - in a year or two it will shrink to become a perfect fit. I recommend measuring your head as per Allington's sizing instructions and purchasing at least one size up to allow for shrinkage. Style :- I'm a relatively conservative 50 y.o farm work but wanted to try something a little different to the Cattleman / Coober Pedy models I've worn in the past. I'm really glad I dared myself a style change - the Rough Rider model is a western style finish but a beautifully balanced hat with nice symmetry between crown height and wide brim. The angle of the front brim and pitch of the side folds is just perfect for me, the hat looks sweet - a classic brim curve that I can appreciate. Function :- The Rough Rider is a brilliant hat for prolonged hours outdoors. I really appreciate the extra brim width the most, esp. with lower angled sun - there is so much more shade afforded by a wider brimmed hat. I'm never going back to a narrower brimmed hat after the Rough Rider. I also appreciate the taller crown and more air under the crown with the centre crease styling - subjectively it does feel slightly cooler to wear than the front pinch designs. Despite the Rough Rider being a larger hat than I'm previously used to it balances on my head without me being conscious I'm wearing it. I'm also please to report that the Rough Rider fits with a little room to spare in both the hat savers mounted in my ute. Finish :- My Rough Rider arrived in 100% perfect condition as have all of my Akubra purchases over the years so Akubra still has an excellent quality control system in place as far as I can tell. The finish on my hat is first class, satin lining was laid perfectly, brim edges cut neatly, felt material even thickness right across the hat and the creases and crown pinches are spot on. The horse hair plaited band looks much better in the flesh. The leather headband is immaculately stitched into the hat and the brass ventilation eyelets are punched in perfectly. My Rough Rider arrived really stiff and has held perfect shape after two proper rains. The Bran colour is a classic Akubra colour and possibly the most practical colour for a work hat that will be worn daily for several years on a farm.
