Regular Fit Jeans for Every Need

Regular fit jeans that sit straight through the leg without pulling anywhere, in over a hundred washes and cuts. The fit most people land on once they've tried a slim and a relaxed and decided against both.

What Regular Fit Actually Means

Regular fit is the middle ground. It's cut with enough room through the seat and thigh to sit down in comfortably, then runs straight to the hem without tapering hard or flaring out. It's the fit most people default to once they've tried the alternatives, and the one that suits the widest range of builds.

It's also the deepest jeans range we carry. Wrangler holds the largest share, with Lee and Levi's next, and Ariat, Thomas Cook and several country labels behind them.

Straight, Slim Straight and Bootcut

Within regular fit there's still choice. A true straight leg holds the same width from knee to hem. Slim straight narrows slightly below the knee without becoming a skinny. Bootcut opens back out from the knee so the hem falls over a boot rather than catching on it - worth knowing if you wear a taller heel.

Relaxed, wide leg and tailored cuts appear as well, and rise varies from mid to high across the range.

Rigid, Stretch and What They Do

Rigid cotton denim arrives stiff, breaks in over a few weeks and holds its shape. Stretch blends a small amount of elastane and is comfortable straight away, which matters more if you're in and out of a vehicle all day. Both are well represented here, along with active-flex and stretch-branded fabrics that sit between the two.

Washes run the full range - stonewash, indigo, black rinse, vintage, taupe, moss, wheat and bone - and several styles come in stated leg lengths so you can skip the hemming. Rise deserves more attention than it usually gets. A higher rise keeps a shirt tucked and stays put when you bend or sit on a horse, which is why country cuts tend to sit higher than city ones.

A lower rise reads more casual and suits an untucked shirt. Between two pairs that fit the same in the waist, the rise is usually what decides which one you actually reach for, so it's worth checking that number rather than only the waist and leg.

Men's and Women's Together

This range covers both, roughly sixty per cent men's and forty per cent women's, so it's worth using the filters. The women's jeans and men's jeans ranges split them out if that's easier.

Find the Pair You'll Keep Rebuying

Free shipping applies Australia-wide over $175. Denim is the category where knowing your brand and number saves the most time - once you've found a regular fit that works, the same cut in a different wash will usually behave identically. Ring us if you're switching brands and want a sizing steer.

Frequently asked questions

What is a regular fit jean and who is it best suited for?

A regular fit jean is the classic, traditional cut – straight through the seat, thigh and leg with a comfortable, non-tapered shape. It suits just about everyone, and it's the go-to for those who want room to move, an easy fit over boots and a timeless look that never dates.

How does a regular fit differ from a slim fit or relaxed fit?

A regular fit sits comfortably without being tight or baggy. A slim fit is cut closer through the thigh and leg for a tailored look, while a relaxed fit is roomier through the seat and thigh with extra room to move. Regular sits right in the middle – the balanced, classic choice.

What waist and leg length options are available in regular fit jeans?

Regular fit jeans are sized by waist and leg in inches, typically across a broad waist range with regular and long leg lengths. Check the size options and chart on each product page to find your combination.

Are regular fit jeans suitable for both work and weekend wear?

Yes – the regular fit is a true all-rounder. It's comfortable and roomy enough for everyday work and long days, and clean and classic enough to wear out on the weekend with a shirt and boots. See our guide on the top 5 jeans you can't live without!

What brands offer regular fit jeans at Allingtons?

You'll find regular fit jeans from the leading denim names we stock, including Wrangler, Ariat, Pure Western and Bullzye.

How do I break in a new pair of regular fit jeans?

Simply wear them – denim moulds to your body over time. Rigid (raw) denim takes longer and softens with wear and the first few washes; stretch denim feels comfortable almost immediately. Wearing them regularly over the first couple of weeks is the best way to break them in, and washing inside out in cold water keeps the colour while they settle.
