How do I measure my child's foot to get the right size?

Have your child stand on a sheet of paper with their weight evenly spread, trace around each foot and measure from the back of the heel to the tip of the longest toe. Measure both feet and use the larger measurement, ideally later in the day and with the socks they usually wear. Then compare the measurement against the brand's size chart, as kids' sizing varies: Ariat and Roper use US sizing, Pure Western and Thomas Cook use Australian/UK sizing, and Crocs uses its own C and J sizes. Make sure there’s enough room for their toes to move comfortably, without the shoes being so loose that their heels slip excessively. How much growing room should I leave in kids' boots?

Aim for about a thumb's width, roughly 1.2cm, between the longest toe and the end of the boot. Avoid going more than about 2cm too long, as boots that are too big can trip kids up when they run.
