Yes, Allingtons stocks hi vis workwear designed to meet Australian Standard AS/NZS 4602.1, including Day (Class D), Night (Class N), and Day/Night (Class D/N) options. What is the difference between Day, Night, and Day/Night hi vis workwear?

Day (Class D) workwear uses fluorescent fabric for daylight visibility but doesn't perform well under headlights or artificial light. Night (Class N) gear uses retroreflective tape that bounces light back to its source for visibility at night. Day/Night (D/N) gear combines both. Only fluorescent yellow, orange and orange-red meet Australian daytime requirements, which is why taped pink, blue and emerald shirts like the Ritemate RM1050R in pink are rated for night wear only. Which class of hi vis do I need for construction, roadwork, or warehouse work?

Your employer or principal contractor sets the requirement based on their risk assessment, so always check with them first. As a general guide, daytime outdoor construction work often calls for at least Class D in fluoro yellow or orange. Roadwork, traffic control and any work at night, in low light or near moving vehicles usually needs Day/Night (D/N) gear with reflective tape. Warehouses often specify D/N too, because fluoro fabric alone doesn't perform well under artificial lighting around forklifts. A taped Ritemate day/night shirt or options from FXD, CAT and Rainbird are a good place to start.
Does hi vis workwear also offer UPF sun protection?

Many styles do. Ritemate hi vis shirts and polos are UPF 50+ and state they meet the Australian sun protection standard (AS 4399). Options from FXD and Rainbird also offer UPF 50+ hi vis clothing, while selected Portwest and CAT styles are rated UPF 30. For outdoor work, a long-sleeve hi vis shirt covers more skin than a hi vis polo or hi vis tee. Check each listing for its rating, and pair your shirt with a hat and sunscreen.
How do I wash hi vis workwear to keep the reflective tape compliant?

Always follow the care label, as fabrics and tapes vary. As a general rule, close zips and Velcro, turn garments inside out and wash cold on a gentle cycle with a mild detergent. Avoid bleach and fabric softener, and wash hi vis separately from rough or heavy gear. Line dry in the shade rather than tumble drying, and don't iron over tape. No amount of care makes hi vis last forever, so replace gear when the tape cracks or peels or the fabric fades, since faded hi vis isn't effective.
