Each hat starts with premium wool fibres that are felted - pressed together with moisture and heat - to form a dense, durable fabric. The felt is then steamed and moulded on a hat block to form the crown and brim. The excess felt is trimmed off, the edge stitched, and the hatband added.

How do I work out what size I need for the kids Avenel Johnny Hat?
To start with, you establish their size as per their head measurement. Measure the circumference around their head - approximately 12mm (1/2") above their ears. Keep the dressmaker tape level and firm, and keep it across the temple and above the eyebrow ridges. For in-between measurements, select the next size up.

Can they wear it in the rain?
Yes the wool felt is naturally water repellent, and will tolerate a light shower. When it does get wet, let it air dry naturally. Avoid accelerating the drying process by using heat or direct sunlight, as this can cause the natural felt fibre to shrink and distort the shape of the hat.

How do we care for their Johnny hat?
Use a soft bristle brush to gently brush away dust. Light marks can be wiped off with a damp cloth. Increase the water and stain repellent quality of the hat with a rain and stain protector spray. To maintain its shape long-term, store it on a hat stand, on a shelf upside down (on it's crown), or in a hat box. Teach kids to handle it by the brim rather than the crown to help keep its shape. You can also pack The Wrangler, and it will pop back into shape when you unpack it! (Just don't store it crushed for long periods of time.)
